Healthy Eating
Eating is a complex behaviour, and improving healthy eating across communities requires multiple different kinds of actions. This section contains resources about nutrition, food programs like community gardens and kitchens, food security, and healthy food environments in recreation settings to help communities improve healthy eating knowledge and opportunities and reduce barriers to eating well.
Active Living
Supporting all community members to incorporate physical activity into their lives, whether for fun or for a purpose, is an important part of creating a healthy community. These resources address topics such as active transportation, physical literacy, play, recreation programming, cycling, walking, and more.
Healthy Eating in Recreation Settings (HERS)
Healthy Eating in Recreation Settings (HERS) aims to improve food environments in recreation settings. This means that at locations where people are physically active, or spaces conducive to recreation and play, food and drinks options that promote healthy living are more easily accessible to them. HERS maintains that the eating environments in these facilities should be in alignment with the healthy lifestyle and well-being that such spaces promote.
Community Development
Improving healthy eating and active living in communities involves change at multiple levels. These resources address topics such as community engagement, partnership development, applying for funding, advocacy, policy development, project planning and evaluation, and more!
COVID-19
Eating well and being active are even more important during stressful times like the COVID-19 pandemic! This list contains community-sourced resources to support healthy eating and active living during COVID-19 and is updated weekly.
