Are you in a community hungry to learn more about active living and healthy eating? Would you and other wellness champions benefit from working through relevant problems that are holding you back from reaching your full potential in wellness?
Communities ChooseWell is launching in-person workshops to build capacity in YOUR community!
Our workshops are educational, hands-on, and tailored to the needs of your community. Workshops are ~3 hours in length and will highlight one the topic of your choice from the list below:
Effective storytelling can be an invaluable asset both in your professional life and personal. With a focus in three storytelling forms – live, written, and video – the session will not only provide general skills and learning that participants can use in everyday life, but also provide skills and learning specific to a community storytelling context. With these skills you might create captivating promotional materials for your work, write a compelling and creative grant application, or even tell a great story at your next family gathering. This workshop will demonstrate the importance of storytelling and drive participants to identify the key success elements to good storytelling, and relate it back to a real story they want to share.
This session will draw on content from the Promotions Pillar of the Healthy Communities Framework.
Learning Objectives:
- You will be able to identify the key elements of engaging storytelling
- You will understand the difference between live/oral, written and video storytelling – and be able to determine which format is most relevant and useful for you in your work
- You will be able to reflect critically on your storytelling practices and how you might better improve it and make it more effective and engaging to audiences
- You will understand how to use storytelling for effective promotional purposes
Communities across Alberta are full of amazing people, places, and ideas but we don’t always take the time to really see and celebrate them. That’s where Community Asset Mapping comes in!
Community Asset Mapping is a simple, collaborative way for communities to come together and explore the strengths, resources, and connections they already have and to spark ideas for how to build on them for the future.
Join us for a fun and interactive workshop where we’ll work together to:
- Map out the great things already happening in your community
- Talk about what matters most to your community and why
- Identify opportunities for growth, connection, and new ideas
- Build a shared vision for a stronger, more vibrant, and sustainable future
This workshop is a chance for everyone in your community: residents, local organizations, municipal staff, businesses, and others to come together, share knowledge, and strengthen local connections.
Communities ChooseWell will help guide and support the process, but this is your community’s workshop. The ideas and insights gathered will reflect your community’s voice and can help inspire future projects, planning, and local initiatives.
This session will draw on content from the Places Pillar of the Healthy Communities Framework.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the purpose and value of community asset mapping
- Identify and document community assets
- Identify gaps in assets and opportunities for growth
